How much money should I give as a wedding gift to my fave cousin?

Question by dazed&confuzed: How much money should I give as a wedding gift to my fave cousin?
I'm based in NY but my cousin resides in London so I need a Briton's advice. She's getting married this month and I have absolutely no idea how much money to give - the dilemma is because of the currency: the dollar is weaker than the pound. I usually follow the "2x whatever the cost per plate at reception" but I don't even know how much a wedding in London costs! I don't want to shop for a gift because I know that she can use the extra cash.

Doesnt she have a wedding present list? This is the norm.
If not then i’d estimate an average London wedding reception dinner must cost around 55 pounds per head. A normal British wedding present would set you back around 30 pounds but if it’s for someone special then you might want to go for 50-100 pounds.

a perfect rule to follow is this….
for family ( close and distant )
    10% of your monthly income ex..3K a month = $ 300
for friends ( close and aquaintences )
    5% of your monthly income ex..3K a month = $ 150
i use this same rule for graduations also….
    good luck!!

Wedding are pretty expensive over here in the UK.
i can only suggest you think what you can afford and dont leave yourself short of money….
Most people would be over the moon with maybe £50-£100 as a gift…but its really down to what you can afford…just by sending your love im sure they will be happy.

It all depends on how much money you have on you. i suppose anything from £50- £100 would be nice.
i dont know how much that is in dollars?
If she is having a big fancy wedding they can be very expensive. Were talking thousands.. Have fun at the wedding!

Pick a price from the registry and give her that amount.

I don’t think we spend as much money normally on gifts as people in the states do.

For a very good friend/close relative I would probably spend about £50 but that would also depend on how much money I had at the time and other money I would spend in actually attending the wedding – flights, train, hotel etc,

Weddings have gone daft. I live in Northern Ireland and have recently attended two weddings and no more in foreseeable future, thank goodness.

Both these weddings were on my other half’s side and he insisted on giving them £500 each. I believe this to be well over the top and think that for a family wedding it would be grand to give about £100, that would be about £200 dollars.

Hope you have a great day at wedding. Enjoy.
