Question by S: How long does it take to legally change my name when I get married?
We are getting married this weekend, but waiting until August for our honeymoon. I don't know whether to change my name after the wedding and then hope I can get my name changed in time for the trip or leave it as my maiden name until we get back. Thoughts??? How long does it take for the new social security card?

The day you go to the social security office they give you a temporary verification that you can use as your social security card until it arrives in the mail, probably a week or 2 later. Then you have to change your driver's license and passport. The passport will take the longest, probably several weeks, but maybe you won't even need a passport for your honeymoon. You'll certainly have plenty of time to change your name before August. But you could wait too...if you're a procrastinator...like me;-)

A former Goldman Sachs VP named Peter Simonyi (who previously worked for the SEC) ended up working as a top staffer for Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) on the Oversight Committee under the name Peter Haller. He went on to argue against regulations on Wall Street. The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. It took me about a week to get my name changed, get my new SS card, and contact all my accounts (bank, credit cards, car loan, etc) to let them know. It was really easy and painless! :)
